Dealing With School Fee Exemptions

Economical challenges have placed tremendous financial strain on parents and this has a direct effect on their ability to pay school fees.

Knowing how to properly deal with exemptions is critical to budget management and the overall wellbeing of the school.

In this webinar our legal expert who has sat as chairperson of the SGB at no less than 3 schools and assists many others with their Exemptions and debt collection will answer the following:

  • How are exemptions calculated?
  • What can and cannot be taken into account?
  • Can the SGB adopt an exemption policy?
  • How do we deal with single parents and/or Maintenance orders?
  • Can we grant exemption to one parent and hold the other liable for the fees?
  • How to deal with appeals and DBE overreach?
  • How do exemption applications affect our debt collection process?
