The PoPI Act for Schools

Cost: R375 per person

Is personal information held by your school safe? The PoPI Act applies to schools and will affect the way they handle the information of parents, staff and learners.
As minors, there are special provisions for learners.
The PoPI Act was promulgated in 2013 and will be in full effect from the 1st of August 2021. Information security is going to be paramount and as a school you could be held liable for breaches.
New 24 recently posted an article stating, “Dangerous risks are emerging as schools take this online leap and parents should be sure to ask
important questions, such as: Is personal information held by the school safe?”
The article goes on to say that some experts have warned that up to 95% of schools may not be POPIA-compliant.
