Intermediate Tour Consultant – Sports Travel

About the role
You will take clients and travel agents from first enquiry to safe return. You will assess their needs and budgets, build creative quotes and itineraries, secure the best rates, and make sure every booking runs smoothly. You will also stay in touch with travellers while they are away. You will be expected to exceed customer expectations, meet deadlines and achieve sales targets.
Key responsibilities
- Assess client and agent needs, including special interests, special needs and budget
- Quote all requested services within turnaround times on Tourplan, checking rates first as dynamic rates may apply
- Make and confirm reservations with suppliers, and capture bookings on Tourplan and Zoho
- Plan itineraries and prepare travel packs, vouchers and rooming lists
- Keep clients and agents updated on reservation status, payment requirements, deadlines and conditions
- Support clients during travel, handle complaints and emergencies, and manage queries
- Collect feedback from clients and the travel trade after departure
- Ensure clients are invoiced timeously, follow up on payments, arrange pre-payments and liaise with Finance on account queries
- Manage margins, explain variances and reconcile files
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, trade partners and suppliers, and negotiate the best rates and products
- Follow up on leads and keep sourcing new products and creative ideas
What you bring
- Matric / Grade 12 (a Travel & Tourism qualification is preferable)
- A minimum of 5 years’ outbound tourism industry experience
- Working knowledge of Tourplan
- Amadeus experience (a strong advantage)
- Strong geographic, hospitality and logistical touring knowledge
- Proven ability to negotiate with suppliers on availability and rates
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills
- Integrity and honesty in handling finances and confidential information
- A mature, tactful and professional approach when dealing with people at all levels
