About the Role
The Assistant Lodge Accounting Officer is responsible for maintaining financial accuracy, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring smooth financial operations within the lodge. This role suits someone who is detail‑oriented, analytical, and confident in questioning costs or decisions when necessary. This is a permanent, on‑site position based at a luxury Serengeti Camp.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management
- Ensure correct authorisation and allocation of business expenditure
- Apply independent judgement when evaluating proposed costs
- Record daily transactions accurately on PanStrat and manual systems
- Prepare supplier payment requests
- Analyse and interpret management accounts
- Assist with payroll preparation and reconciliations
- Resolve general ledger and balance sheet queries
- Maintain and update stock sheets
Reporting
- Meet all finance deadlines consistently
- Provide timely feedback on management accounts to the Regional Finance Manager
- Lead monthly finance meetings and communicate outcomes
- Support budget compilation and quarterly forecasting
- Assist lodge managers and directors with financial queries
- Support year‑end audit processes
- Reconcile clearing accounts and inter‑lodge transactions
- Supervise reporting staff to ensure output quality
Internal Controls & Asset Safeguarding
- Maintain and enforce stock control procedures
- Participate in month‑end stock takes
- Conduct internal audits and spot checks
- Apply professional scepticism in daily operations
- Investigate and report any suspected losses or control breaches
- Safeguard company assets and ensure accurate record‑keeping
- Manage petty cash, mobile wallets, and lodge bank accounts
- Audit safari shop systems and documentation
Training & Support
- Assist staff with PanStrat usage
- Train lodge teams in accounting principles
- Review and train Front of House systems
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
- (CPA or active CPA progression advantageous)
- 2–3 years’ experience in an accounting or finance role
- (hospitality or lodge environment preferred)
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial controls
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Experience with PanStrat or similar hospitality accounting systems beneficial
- Fluent in English and Swahili (spoken and written)
