NATIS Demerit System

Navigating the NATIS Demerit Rollout

The NATIS Points Demerit System is officially being phased in — and by 1 September 2026, it will be fully operational.

This marks one of the most significant compliance shifts for employers who rely on staff to drive, whether occasionally or as part of daily operations.

If your business uses drivers, company vehicles, pool cars, delivery staff, or any employee who drives as part of their role, this affects you directly.

Angus  will unpack the legal, operational, and financial implications — and what companies must put in place before the system becomes fully enforceable.

The Critical Questions Employers Must Be Able to Answer

  • What do you do when a driver reaches enough demerit points to trigger an automatic license suspension — and they are legally prohibited from driving?
  • How do you protect your company from vicarious liability when traffic fines must be redirected to the correct employee — and what happens if you fail to nominate the right driver?
  • What is your exposure if an employee drives a company vehicle with a suspended license — and your insurer rejects the claim after an accident?
  • How will you manage recruitment and vetting when you must regularly check the driving records of current staff and new hires to ensure their licenses are valid and unblemished?

These are not theoretical risks — they are operational realities that will impact HR, fleet management, compliance, and insurance.

This session will help you:

  • Understand how the demerit system works and when it becomes fully enforceable
  • Identify your company’s exposure under the new rules
  • Learn practical steps to protect your business and employees
  • Get clarity on proxy nominations, liability, and record‑keeping obligations
